Manta is a city renowned for its annual international theater festival, where participating theater troupes come from distinct places of the world. The Montubian’s celebrate their festivals on October 12th with cultural activities and their folk manifestations, in addition on this day a rodeo also takes place.
The city of Manta is visited by many tourists who have a great interest in learning and getting acquainted with the local culture and language. Montecristi is a village of great historical richness and through its distinguished handicrafts made from straw, wicker, piquigua, plastic and wood. Their identity is seen through the fine toquilla straw hats recognized nationally and internationally as Panama hats.
The Malecon Escenico counts with an ample agenda of activities where many diverse beach events, competitions, and artistic presentations take place.
Puerto Lopez, is a great location to find all the adventure you would like to take part of. It contains 135 tourist attractions which range from a dry and humid tropical forest, coral reefs, islets and islands, el Bosque Nuboso de San Sebastian (The Cloudy Forest of Saint Sebastian). From Puerto Lopez you can take a motorboat to go to the island of La Plata
The National Park of Machalilla is close to Puerto Lopez on the Ecuadorian coast. It is 55,095 hectares and its maximum heath is 1,850 meters. It covers the continental sector. The low areas of the park are dry and demi-deserts, yet provide for beautiful scenery, beaches, bays, and cliffs. This park contains various attractions: the Island of la Plata in front of the coast of Puerto Lopez, the beach Los Frailes, the archeological site of Agua Blanca, Salango, and the beaches of Puerto Rico and Puerto Cayo.
Machalilla Museum, derives its name from one of the precolombian cultures that inhabited this cultural area where archeological remains can be found. This can be admired from Agua Blanca and Salando.
Agua Blanca, is of great importance because of the archeological potential held with the prehistoric remains of the Mantenya culture, the last of Ecuador’s prehistoric period. At present time there is a museum where you can admire the funeral urns.
The Agua Blanca Commune has natural and cultural tourist attractions. It also counts with lodging in cabins where you can choose your preferred room and the cabins have the capacity for 50 people. There is also a camping area. There are restaurant services and home cooking provided by the families in the community of Agua Blanca. Among the main activities there are hikes, walks along the paths, shamanism, massages with palo santo oil, and this experience with prove to be a unique one.
Parapenting and Delta Wings. This sport can be done at Crucita, considered worldwide as one of the best locations to do these types of high risk sports.
Other types of sports include surfing (Manta was the global headquarters of body boarding), diving, water skiing and other sports.
Walks can be done at the Machalilla National Park.
Snorkeling is for those who want to submerge and explore in the water without getting too far from the surface. This can be done at the Isle of Salango and the Isle de Plata on coastal region.
On this island you can enjoy unique flora and fauna as found on the Galapagos Islands, an example being the blue foots. Thousands of tourists visit the island every year, mainly from June to October when the humpback whales arrive from the Antarctic. The humpback whales are the most acrobatic of the large whales. They like to jump from the water and hit the water repeatedly with their fins. They are also known as the singing whales during mating season.
The dry forests are among the most interesting on the planet for their high grade of endemic species: up to 20 percent of the species are unique. Among the park’s representative flora are: algarrobo, balsa, ceibo, guayacan, laurel, matapalo, palo santo, tuna, and species of orchids and bromeliads. The characteristic animals of this area are deer and two species of monkeys, the howling and the mico.
The Beach of Manta. Manta is enchanting for its magnificent beaches found at the heart of the city. The most visited beaches are Murcielago Beach and Tarqui Beach. At Murcielago you can find the scenic Malecon and celebrate the festival of carnival which hosts international and national spectacles. The Beach of Santa Marianita is known as the “Beautiful Beach,” for its crystalline waters.
Canoa, is a beautiful beach with an almost 2 km extension where you can enjoy a peaceful and relaxing day on the beach.
San Vicente, has extraordinary beaches where you can take a fun trip on a barge from the wharf to the bay in front of Bahia of Caraquez. Bahía de Caráquez is an attraction that consists of navigating on the river Chone on lancha or gabarra until you arrive at the beach of San Vicente.
The Beach of the Frailes is the most impressive of the whole Ecuadorian coast. There is exuberant fauna and vegetation surrounded by dry tropical rain forest.
You can also enjoy other enchanting beaches. Briceno, San Jacinto, San Clemente are characterized by their tranquility and natural beauty.
