ORELLANA.
Entrance port to the Amazons, it harbors one of the most important protected areas of Ecuador. You can also count with the presence of indigenous nationalities and tourism infrastructure fit to receive both local and national visitors who wish to know the marvels of the Orellana Amazon
Ethinicities. The indigenous nationalities of the Shuar, Kichwa, and the Huaroni have best maintained their cultures in the region. The Kichwa nationality conserve their traditions such as serving manioc chichi or chonta to their visitors, their handicrafts of clay and seeds, dance, music, and festivals.
Sculptures. It consists of a stone that is found situated at the center of a natural pool formed by the Lagart River. This stone has ancestral writings. Its writings mention that they are spirits that represent death and live uneasily. They teach their wisdom to those who seek it.
CICAME Archeological Museum. This is a archeological and ethnographic museum where you can observe the exhibits of the Omagua culture, one of the first Amazonian cultures. It has an important collection of funerary ceramics and other distinct cultural pieces collected for more than 30 years.
The Organization of the Kichwa Sacha Kawsay Woman dedicate themselves to the elaboration of typical dress, nets, collars, and crowns with materials found in the zone. They also present folk dances.
This cavern network has only one entrance. Inside the cavern there is a corridor where you can appreciate the internal pure and crystalline water springs that spew from the depths of the earth. You can also observe stalactite and stalagmite formations
To get to this beautiful waterfall you have to walk 10 minutes. Here you can swim, hike and picnic.
Waterfall of Love. Various fish species live in its waters. At the waterfall there is a small forest reserve where you can observe a great variety of endemic flora and fauna such as various curative plants.
The Shaman Association of the Loreto canton, know the curative powers of tropical plants. For their ritual ceremonies they use the ayahuasca, which is prepared as a drink to get in contact with the forest spirits. Their teachings are passed down to their children which keeps the customs and traditions of the Kichwa nationality alive.
The Canton of Aqurico harbors one of the most important protected areas in Ecuador, The Yasuni National Park. This is biosphere reserve and an intangible zone inhabited by the Huaorani, Tagaeri, and Taromenane. It also contains the Faunistic Reserve of Cuyabeno. One of the viable ways to take advantage of the natural richness is through ecotourism, the presence of Amazon ethnicities with their unique characteristics and resources, and through natural attractions where multiple tourist activities can be experienced.
The Simon Bolivar agroecologic property contains diverse organic cultivations, ornamental, medicinal, and fruit plants, two pools for fish reproduction, a laboratory for the elaboration of organic fertilizers and a small ecological park with paths. Here organic agriculture is practiced.
The community of Sani Isla developed a tourist project named Sani Lodge where food, lodging, tour, and activities of intercultural exchange are offered.
You can cohabitate with this community, visit a lake of the same name to take boat trips, take walks, and observe the flora and fauna.
Sport Fishing. At the center of fish production in Yanayacu you can sport fish on the weekends.
Walks and Swimming. At the Belleza Waterfall it is possible to go swimming, walk, and picnic making for a wonderful weekend vacation.
At the attractive San Pablo Lake you can swim, dive, and do activities such as fishing and look for shells.
The Jungle Challenge. The province of Orellana has a diversity of places where you can take part of many activities such as the Jungle Challenge that is done every November. This competition allows you to explore different scenery combining nature with adrenaline.
Tubing. This can be done at the Suna and Huataraco rivers on a journey that takes approximately two hours.
This island counts with 156 hectares which is the habitat of around 40 chorongo monkeys that were introduced to the island for their conservation.
This space on the interior of an estate has a variety of ornamental and medicinal plants that are native or have been introduced. There is also a small museum with a collection of archeological pieces, a fish production pool, and a small guatusa nursery.
At this waterfall of 20 meters in height there live real parrots which leave at 6h00 and return at 17h00.
